Digital River: Your checkout is broken!

There isn’t much more frustrating than trying to buy something and finding that the shopping cart is broken. It is really frustrating when that shopping cart just happens to be used by more than a few of the major software OEMs. I want to give you my money, but I can’t!

Over the past week, I have tried to purchase software online from both Microsoft and Symantec, only to be given an error message telling me that my city and zip code do not match. Did the USPS change my address and forget to tell me? Nope, not according to the postal service address checker, anyway.

So who can I tell about the problem? Digital River, like way too many other online services, has no phone number, live chat or email address that will let me speak to a person. I could send them a letter in the mail, but then I would have to wait a week for it to get there, another week to get opened and routed to the right person and probably another two or three to receive a response.

Here’s a message to the retailers and service providers: Allow your consumers to reach you and you might increase your conversion rate. Oh well, maybe I didn’t want to spend that money anyway…

  1. Hi,
What city and zipcode were you trying to enter?
I’ll forward this to have somebody take a look at it.
Was Aug. 29 the date you tried this?
    Thanks.

  2. Hi Jeff,

Thank you for writing. I have tried Richmond, Va 23233 on several occasions between August 26 and now and always get a message that my zip code and city are invalid. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

  4. The fix for this problem is planned to be released on Sept. 25th (assuming no critical problems discovered in test).
